On March 5, 2025, the parish centre of the Cathedral of St. Sergius of Radonezh in South Africa became the venue of an important meeting with the delegation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, which arrived in the country headed by Elena Vadimovna Tumakova, Deputy Director of the Department of State Policy in Higher Education.
Archpriest Daniel Lugovoy met the guests, showed them the cathedral, its sacred objects, told them about the emergence of the Orthodox community in Johannesburg and the life of the parish.
The visit included a productive conversation with representatives of the Coordinating Council of Organisations of Russian Compatriots (CCORC) of South Africa and active compatriots of the Gauteng province. In the online format, the meeting was joined by representatives of the Cape Town CSRCO, which allowed the circle of participants to expand and discuss topical issues related to the development of the Russian language and Russian culture abroad.
During the meeting the delegation learnt about the educational projects already implemented. An exhibition of photographs from the life of the parish was of particular interest. The guests also visited the parish library and Sunday school classes.
