On 24 February 2025, Metropolitan Constantine of Zarai, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, arrived in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia.
On the trip, the bishop is accompanied by Archpriest Daniel Lugovoi, rector of the Cathedral of St Sergius of Radonezh of the Diocese of South Africa, and the personal secretary, Reader V.V. Dendyuk. Dendyuk.
On the same day Metropolitan Constantine met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Zambia A.A. Yarakhmedov.
The meeting discussed issues concerning the activities of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa in Zambia. The exarch thanked the head of the Russian diplomatic mission for his assistance to the Russian Orthodox Church.
On 25 February, the bishop celebrated the Divine Liturgy on the grounds of the Russian House in Lusaka.
His Eminence was served by Archpriest Daniel Lugovoy and the rector of St Dimitri Church in Luanshya District, Priest Varnava Ntasha.
The service was attended by the Russian Ambassador to Zambia A.A. Yarakhmedov, the head of the Russian House S.N. Kovaleva, employees of diplomatic institutions, our compatriots and local residents.
The liturgy was celebrated in Church Slavonic and English.
At the end of the service, Metropolitan Konstantin addressed the audience with an archpastoral address. Vladyka thanked S.N. Kovaleva for her assistance in organising the service and presented the Russian House with an icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a Bible.
The service was followed by a chat with the compatriots over tea.
Vladyka announced the transfer of a plot of land to the Russian Orthodox Church for the organisation of the first Russian parish in the capital. With the blessing of His Eminence, the parish was named in honour of the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael and other Celestial Forces incorporeal.
Archpriest Daniel Lugovoi was appointed acting rector. The vladyka presented the future church with a set of liturgical utensils.
Then the necessary production meetings were held. Metropolitan Constantine inspected the site and the condition of the premises.
